This problem started happening about a week ago. I suspect it's a bug in the new algorithm they implemented last week.

Mike,
Adwords implemented a new aspect to their PPC to ensure they're only running relevant, quality ads. This has always been an aspect of Adwords but they've added the feature of increasing your bid to outweigh the relevancy. Essentially, if your ad has a low Click Through Rate (CTR), then they will deactivate it, or now, they will except an exorbitant amount of money to keep running your ad.

My suggestion is to improve the relevancy of your ad and select some more relevant keywords. One thing that increases CTR is having the keyword phrase in the title of the ad.

Make sense?

As much as I can understand the concept, the application appears rather skewed. Basically, anyone selling through relational exposure will suffer. Not everyone can select direct and simple terms like "5 string bass guitar".

Large E-commerce sites seem to be in the best position to benefit from the changes. If they have diverse categories of products, they can target keywords to low paying products and still showcase their 'true' target products on the page that the ad clicks to.

It seems foolish to turn away any moderately relative ads on keyphrases that currently have no advertising. So if I'm looking for 'similar' exposure for my music CD, what keywords can I use?
